Sad news at L'Amore Italian Ristorante, the family-owned Italian restaurant in East Phoenix. The restaurant's executive chef, Cuauhtemoc Garcia Delgado, died Saturday in a drowning accident on Lake Pleasant, according to kpho.com.

Delgado, 28, who started with L'Amore as a dishwasher when the restaurant opened in 2002, worked his way up to executive chef six years ago.

And last year, Delgado became a U.S. Citizen.

Delgado leaves behind his pregnant wife, 10-year-old son, and 5-year-old daughter.

According to kpho.com, family members have set up a memorial fund at Wells Fargo bank called "The Garcia Family Donation". The account number is 6301690217.

L'Amore will be closing at 2 p.m. Wednesday in honor of Delgado.
