After extensively renovating the space that formerly housed Panino on Central, Myrah and Joe Aiello opened Aiello's, a new Italian restaurant, a little over a week ago.

The couple owned an eatery called Mimi's Macaroni, on Manhattan's Upper West Side, for the better part of the 1990s, and ran a catering business as well. Myrah says having two young kids prompted them to move to the Valley in 2000; since then, they've been working in the corporate world. She says they're thrilled to have their own restaurant again.

The lunch menu features salads and sandwiches (including a grilled eggplant and homemade mozzarella sandwich, and a meatball parmigiana hero), plus a dozen different pasta dishes. Come dinnertime, there are even more pasta options. Look for housemade pappardelle, spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti with "Joe's famous meatballs," and a ravioli of the day, along with a variety of Italian entrees, from chicken Milanese to veal saltimbocca. The wine list features 45 different wines from across Italy, with several available by the glass.

Aiello's, located at 5202 N. Central (between Camelback and Missouri) is open for dinner nightly, from 4 to 10 p.m. (to 9 p.m. on Sunday). Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call 602-277-8700 for info.
