Now that the weather is cooling down, it seems like a good time to pick some nice pumpkins, squash, kale, and other vegetables just in time for fall.

Although the fall harvest season ends on Halloween, both Apple Annie's Orchard and Apple Annie's Produce & Pumpkins are in full swing for the rest of October. The orchard offers apples and Asian pears, while the produce area has a wide variety of vegetables, including pumpkins, winter squash and green beans. They're both open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day, so swing by to grab your favorite fall produce. Prices range from 49 cents to $1.69 per pound depending on the item. For the rest of October, Schepf Farms is hosting its annual Pumpkin & Chili Party, but as of November 2, its U-Pick Organic Gardens will be open again. This season, the crops include everything from squash and celery to kale and snap peas. Any of the vegetables you pick from the seven gardens will only cost you $1.50 per pound. With one of the biggest pumpkin patches in Gilbert, Mother Nature's Farm is centered on fall and winter holidays. Aside from its big events for Halloween and Christmas, the farm will be open for regular picking through the end of the year. Current hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., but make sure you look at the website because it's always subject to change.

If you're looking for pumpkins or a corn maze in Glendale this month, Tolmachoff is the place to go. With a wide variety of activities for the family outside of just picking pumpkins, look for fall-themed fun for the rest of October before the farm switches gears for its winter season of fresh produce in November. Though the farm becomes more of a "Fall Festival" than a public produce-picking spot during the fall, the Mesa establishment still contains a good-sized pumpkin patch for those looking to get into the spirit of Halloween. Admission to the festival and pumpkin patch is set at $9 per person, but that also includes access to the corn maze as well as several rides and other forms of entertainment at the family-friendly location.
