Fresh on the heels of the cronut trend comes another NYC native, the ramen burger. You may have enjoyed a teriyaki burger or two in the past, but Asian-American fusion has never been quite like this. In Keizo Shimamoto's version, the basic burger bun is replaced with two pressed ramen discs to make what we can only imagine is a squishy, messy indulgence.
But crazy burgers are nothing new. This is America, after all -- land of the oversized and not-to-be-outdone. Here are ten bizarre burger creations that will make you do a double-take.
Deep-Fried Twinkie Burger PYT
When a burger is served on a fried bun, there are usually two glazed doughnuts involved. Legend has it that crazy creation is called the Luther Burger, in honor of Luther Vandross. But after decades as a cult classic, this sickeningly sweet burger has been overshadowed by another fried bun. And this one's even more American: Deep-fried Twinkies. Philadelphia burger joint PYT just released this bad boy last month, and if you want to get your hands on it, you have to shell out $12. But the bad news is it's planned to be a limited-time special.
Triple Coronary Bypass The Vortex Bar & Grill
A lot of restaurants now have a burger that threatens some sort of heart failure, but this restaurant in Atlanta offers several levels of dietary sin. There are three Bypass Burgers to choose from, and the Triple Coronary (a.k.a. The Super-Stack) really takes the cake, er, half-pound beef patties. The menu describes it as "sort of a Coronary Bypass surrounded by a Double Coronary Bypass." In all its glory, you get three burger patties, three fried eggs, 14 slices of American cheese, and 10 slices of bacon. But that's not all. The best part is the bun is replaced with two grilled cheese sandwiches. And yeah, you also get a side of French fries and cheesy tater tots.
Mac Attack Rockit Burger Bar
Cheese goes with everything, and by extension mac 'n' cheese goes with everything. So why not use it as a burger bun? That's what Rockit Burger Bar did last month, but the crazy Chicago creation also had a couple other unexpected additions: scallions and Sriracha ketchup. Unfortunately, it was only a weekly special, but for another mac 'n' cheeseburger mash-up, head to NYC's Go Burger. A juicy beef patty is topped with an even bigger patty of fried mac. Sandwiched between them are caramelized onions, bacon, cheddar cheese, and housemade smoked ketchup. Both of these burgers just might be all your comfort food dreams come true.
Caviar Burger Serendipity 3
Known for holding the Guinness World Record for the world's most expensive ice cream sundae, priced at $1,000, Serendipity 3 has several other extravagant options on its menu. A stand-out on the regular menu is the caviar burger topped with sour cream and cucumber slices. Since a lot of typical burgers in the city with no frills and nothing to write home about can be priced at $10 or $12, the $18.50 this burger will set you back is actually a pretty good deal.
Sushi Burger iBurger
You may have seen a salmon burger on a menu or two, especially in coastal locales, but how about salmon tartare? At Montreal's iBurger the raw fish patty is the pièce de résistance of this strange sushi burger. It's lightly spiced and served between two rice patties. It has fresh toppings of seaweed salad, mango, avocado, and lemon and is completed with a wasabi vinaigrette.
Brie and Spicy Fried Shrimp Burger Disney World's Polynesian Resort
Disney resorts offer everything you or your family could want in a fantasy getaway, and that includes some pretty wacky burger combinations. At Disney World, you can find the PB&J Burger with jalapenos and bacon at the ESPN Club, and Disneyland's Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge has Kobe beef cheek sliders with red bell pepper marmalade. But strangest of all might be the surf 'n' turf mash-up at Kona Café in the Polynesian Resort. The grilled Angus chuck burger is topped with spicy fried shrimp, black garlic aioli, and a thick slice of brie.
S'mores Burger River City Café
If you think there's only one dessert-burger hybrid, you'd be wrong. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is home to the S'mores Burger with toppings better placed on an ice cream sundae than a greasy patty of ground meat. The burger is oozing with peanut butter, Nutella, and marshmallow cream -- a combo no doubt first cooked up at 2 a.m. to satisfy a THC-induced craving of epically weird proportions. Prefer an all-desert version? Cook up Hubert Keller's, which uses puff pastry, heavy cream, bittersweet chocolate, and a homemade marshmallow patty.
The DB "Royale" Double Truffle Burger db Bistro Moderne
Chef Daniel Boulud's burger is about as decadent as it gets without going too overboard (if you disagree, check out the $666 Douche Burger). But if you think "double truffle" is the indulgent part, think again. The burger patty is stuffed with red-wine braised short ribs and foie gras. Then it's garnished with a mix of root vegetables, black truffle preserves, and handful of fresh black truffles.

Arizona gets in on the bizarre burger action too. Although the ingredients in the Pic Mac aren't all that weird, the concept itself is a bit of a struggle to understand -- unless you are prone to big cravings for Big Macs despite your food snob leanings. If so, this upscale burger was designed with you in mind. It starts with two patties of meat: one beef, one pork sausage. From there, it resembles the McDonald's famed burger almost exactly: special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun. The American cheese is upgraded to real cheddar, and the dehydrated onions are subbed for root beer caramelized onions. Next time you find yourself driving to a Scottsdale McD's, turn the wheel toward Brat Haus instead.
MegaBurgerPizza Pizza Little Party
Americans love pizza. Americans love burgers. So why do you have to cross the Pacific Ocean to get a pizza-burger? This double trouble menu item is available at Japan's Pizza Little Party and is exactly what it sounds like. Rather than a bun, it uses two pizzas to encase multiple cheeseburger patties. The mash-up is complete with ketchup and pickles.
