Monday Karaoke @ George & Dragon We love Bill Murray, but his flick Lost in Translation may have given people the impression that karaoke is just for sad sacks' thinly veiled catharses. Belting out the hits in local bars is, no duh, way fun and you can bless The George & Dragon with your vocal stylings Monday, July 29.

While the acclaimed pub is known more for pints of British brews and football than future American Idols, their Monday karaoke is a good way to ease into the week. The kitchen's open late and serving up such authentic British grub as bangers and mash and fish and chips to fuel the singer inside. If you're new, you might want to stick to those well-known songs in your range and give the sausage-encased Scotch Egg a try.

"From The Sidelines" @ Night Gallery That Phoenix native Becky Nahom curated the group show "From The Sidelines" isn't a sign the the curator is exhibiting her newfound love of sports. Instead, the show features works that use the element of line and show how the sometimes overlooked element interacts with color, shape, and texture in art. Nahom says the show "pushes line to the limit without the use of representational form." Sounds like a game-changer to us.
On view at ASU's Night Gallery through September 1, the show features works from Christina Mesiti, Bobby Zokaites, William LeGoullon, and more. North By Northwest Screening @ Burton Barr Central Library Ever been mistaken for someone you're not? It's usually pretty awkward for both parties involved, but nothing worth making a movie about. Unless, of course, you were mistaken for a government agent by foreign spies who then kidnapped you, framed you for the murder of a U.N. Diplomat, and chased you with a crop-dusting bi-plane before you fell in love with a sexy female spy, whom you later had to rescue as she dangled off the side of Mount Rushmore. They would probably make a movie out of that.
In fact, a guy named Alfred Hitchcock did make a movie out of that, and he called it North by Northwest. It stars Cary Grant. You can catch this classic at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 North Central Avenue. The program is free, but seating is limited. L.A. Galaxy vs. Real Madrid @ University of Phoenix Stadium David Beckham is no longer there to bend it for the L.A. Galaxy, but there are still plenty of stars on the squad that might offer the Cristiano Renaldo-led Real Madrid a challenge. They will at least make the game entertaining as the Spanish La Liga team utilizes a super quick-paced brand of futbol that dwarfs anything a Major League Soccer team can muster up -- even one with Phoenix native and veteran midfielder Pablo Mastroeni and the U.S.'s biggest star, Landon Donovan, back from his self-imposed hiatus.
In reality, it's the 28-year-old Renaldo, arguably the world's best player, luring fans to the stadium. With a talented squad of lightning fast supporting players -- including Kaka, Sergio Ramos, and Xabi Alonso -- is there any doubt Renaldo will score? Not much, though the Galaxy's focus will be on shutting him down. Yet, considering he scored 55 goals in 56 appearances during the 2012-13 campaign, his eyes are always on the prize.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World @ Phoenix Art Museum Finding out about a significant other's past relationships is no fun task -- but imagine battling all of your sweetheart's exes to win her ultimate affection. We're not talking metaphorically. We mean physically defeating your opponents, Mortal Kombat-style. Scott Pilgrim kept the fights pretty PG and never proclaimed "finish him!" while dueling with Ramona Flowers' evil exes, though love eventually conquered all after seven grueling battles.
The movie in which he does battle, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is full of such Easter eggs as Scott's "zero" shirt, which is more than a Smashing Pumpkins reference. Throughout the film, each ex is assigned a number, whether it's Todd Ingram hanging out behind door number four, or Scott battling Gideon on level seven. Scott's zero shirt means he isn't an evil ex, since he's a nicer guy than most of Ramona's past flames -- as long as you forget about his drama with Knives Chau.
