The Phoenix museum scene is headed for a big shakeup. Since the departure of ASU Art Museum curator John Spiak and SMoCA curator Cassandra Coblentz last year, both museums have been on the hunt for replacements. And as of May, the Heard Museum began its own search.
President and CEO Letitia Chambers announced that she'd be retiring from her position this summer, and immediately, the museum's board launched a search for her replacement.
"We are mindful of the magnitude of the task before us and are confident we will find the ideal person to build upon the legacy Letitia has set for the Heard," wrote Heard chairman Mark Bonsall an official statement.
Chambers joined the Heard Museum in 2009 and was vocal about her efforts to stabilize the museum's income and raise additional funds for future projects.
Board members say Lee Peterson will act as interim president and CEO of the Heard while a search committee continues the selection process for a permanent replacement, which they expect to find by the fall.
Peterson recently retired from his post as CEO of Sun Health Services, is currently chairman of the Glendale Municipal Properties Corporation, and is chairman of Glendale School District 40 Trust.
