When your credit is maxed out and your IOUs don't mean S-H-I-T, getting something for nothing seems nearly impossibly. Fortunately for the faint of wallet, there's plenty of free events happening around Phoenix. From retro video game nights to community meet and greets and artistic discussions, here are our top three picks for on-the-house happenings in metro Phoenix this week.

Gold may get all the glory, but platinum has its perks in the photography community. Join curator Rebecca Senf in the Norton Gallery at Phoenix Art Museum as she hosts a free tour and talk about the exhibition "All That Glitters Is Not Gold." The free event will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, and give guests the chance to view works by such artists as Dick Arentz, Peter Henry Emerson, William E. Macnaughtan, Margrethe Mather, and Edward Weston. Visit the event on Facebook or check out www.phxart.org for more information.
January Get Your PHX: Fair Trade Community Kitchen & Grid Bike
If your New Year's resolution was to be more involved in the community, we recommend stopping by the Fair Community Kitchen for January's Get Your PHX. The free meet-up, happening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, will give guests the chance to sample from a locally owned business, mix and mingle with fellow downtowners, and enter for a chance to win prizes including a one-year membership to Grid Bike Share. For more information, visit the event on Facebook.
