Author Tania Katan and artist Angela Ellsworth will take a group to the Castello di Spannocchia in the Province of Siena, Italy for a one-week writing and drawing workshop they say will "explore personal and cultural histories by navigating the possibilities of line."

The two call the course Topography of Memory, which they promise requires no drawing or writing experience and only an interest in spending time on an Italian agricultural estate while participating in observatory exercises.

The trip will be a return to Italy for Ellsworth, who lived and worked in Florence for six years before eventually landing in Phoenix, where she is now an Associate Professor in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. Her work is currently showing at the Phoenix Art Museum and she'll open a solo show at Lisa Sette Gallery in November.

Katan's also a playwright and performer who's performed in Phoenix for years and released her memoir My One-Night Stand With Cancer in 2005.

Cost of the trip is $2950, which includes all meals, materials, instruction, ground transportation from/to Florence, a day trip to Sienna, and accommodations in the Villa of Castello di Spannocchia.
