Introducing Morning Buzz, a catch-up on interesting happenings around the city and country and a quick guide to what (and who) to keep your eyes on. We'll be here, first thing every weekday, to get you going. Here's what's buzzing this morning:
2. The Watching Paint Dry Championships
If you have nothing to do this weekend -- and seriously, we mean nothing to do -- and you've been eyeing every iPad you've seen clutched and fondled in any given coffee shop or LightRail car, perhaps it's time to watch some paint dry. Local Traders, a UK-based handyman database announced its first ever "World Watching Paint Dry Championships" in light of "piss-poor" performances by most of their athletic teams. Hopefuls must send in a picture of themselves watching paint dry and enter the longest time they've managed to stare at a wall of drying paint without looking away. Shortlisted entrants will be invited to a grand final (with a cool prize) in central England. More info here.
3. Jenny Brial's Pins and Maps
Our obsession with maps is no secret, and when we stumbled upon the work of Parisian-based artist Jenny Brial, we may have briefly considered starting a collection of globes (natch). Brial's work often includes maps, globes, and interpretations of physical space. The globe above was included in "Double Legende," an exhibition at Galerie du Tableau in Marsaille. See more of her work here.
