Case in point: It was announced this week that Myst and Suede, two of the city's more prominent nightspots, are going to demolished next month to make room for the glitzy Scottsdale Beach Club.
On Tuesday, Scottsdale's City Council gave final approval to the multi-million dollar project, which will is being built by local developer Triyar Companies and will be a nightlife-oriented indoor/outdoor pool paradise sporting bars, restaurant and high-end other amenities.
The beach club, originally set to be built near Stetson Drive and Wells Fargo Avenue when the project was announced last year, will now encompass the block between Indian Plaza and Shoeman Lane where Myst and Suede currently stand.
According to spokespersons for Evening Entertainment Group, the company run by nightlife impresarios Les and Diane Corieri that owns both Myst and Suede, both clubs will close on May 15.
"I think everything is really up in the air right now but we should be open for at least another couple weeks," says EEG employee Uzra Vo.
EEG will reportedly partner with Triyar for the project.
Both Myst and Suede are two of the longest-running clubs in Scottsdale and have survived recessions and the whims of the ever-fickle nightlife crowd for more than a decade. Myst first opened in 1999 as Sanctuary and later transformed into its current identity four years later. Meanwhile, Suede debuted across the street from Axis/Radius in 2001.
EEG spokespersons stated that regularly scheduled dance nights will continue at both clubs until their closure in mid-May.
