Looking for something to do this week? "Night Owl" is a quick guide to specials at bars and clubs around town. We'll give you a few hints re: cover, dress code, music and atmosphere.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere, but that doesn't matter when you're at 32 Shea where you can get a drink at 6 a.m. and it'll even be on special. Even though the 12-Hour Happy Hour may not be the best bargain in town, it is the longest one.
See the full 12-Hour Happy Hour slideshow here and our impressions after the jump...
The Place: 10626 N. 32nd St., Phoenix, AZ 85028
The Time: Monday - Saturday, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
The Cover: Nope.
The Parking: Lots of lot.
The Bar: This cramped but cozy cantina feels more like a downtown coffee shop than a Phoenix strip mall bar. While 32 Shea does indeed have a full espresso bar, the 12-Hour Happy Hour is all about the more intoxicating options. The longest happy hour special in town includes $4 local craft brews, $5 wines and $6 cocktails. The cocktail menu is right out of the mixology movement with plenty of classics and a fair share of creativity.
The Music: A quick mix of classic rock, reggae and indie.
The People: The bar top was filled with older regulars on a first name basis with the bartender/barista. The patio and table area were more for snacking and studying.
The Style: 32 Shea has a funky Eastern style, those in attendance had no particular style to speak of.
What we loved: Even though this is one tiny tavern, it's easy to spend a lot of time at 32 Shea. We're not talking about 12 hours or anything but all aspects of this coffee/food/wine appeared to be equally popular.
What we didn't love: We didn't care for the strong but flavorless Smashed Blueberry or Shea Breeze. However, the Mint Lemon Drop Martini, the bar's signature drink, had a refreshingly tart taste that we'll be back for.
Are we going back? Definitely.
