Who doesn't love staring at the night sky watching shiny objects fly around? Well, rejoice stargazers, the Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend on the nights of August 11 and 12.
The best time to see the "shooting stars" is late Saturday night and into the wee hours of Sunday morning.
According to the Phoenix Astronomical Society, Perseid can produce up to 60 meteors per hour. Unfortunately, if you're in the metro Phoenix area, you probably won't be able to see much except for the occasional helicopter or airplane, but fret not, you can still catch a glimpse of the annual light show ...
If you're feeling adventurous, you can make the trek out to San Tan Mountain Regional Park for its Perseid Meteor Show viewing on Saturday night. The hike starts around 8 p.m. and the viewing is at 9 p.m.
Or if you want to make a full weekend of it and get out of the heat, you can drive up to Flagstaff. Thanks to the low light ordinance, Flagstaff is a great place to see meteors.
