Good news for those getting short on funds. Turns out, going out on the town can be on the house -- if you know where to look, that is. From a movie screening of a holiday favorite to a book reading and signing about Malcolm X and a monthly meet-up for the movers and shakers in Phoenix, here are our top picks for free events this week in the Valley.

A Christmas Story

Put on your pink bunny onesie and head to Burton Barr Central Library for a free screening of the 1983 holiday classic, A Christmas Story. The all-ages screening starts at 6 p.m. inside the first floor auditorium. For details, visit www.phoenixpubliclibrary.org.

Author Night with Dr. Richard Benson II

From 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, stop by the Arizona Humanities Council for a free reading and signing of Fighting for Our Place in the Sun: Malcolm X and the Radicalization of the Black Student Movement, 1960-1973 by Dr. Richard Benson II. December RadiatePHX

The monthly community meet-up, RadiatePHX, returns from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, at Orpheum Theatre.The event will feature guests talks by Phoenix City Councilman Michael Nowakowski, Phoenix Convention Center's John Chan, and Downtown Phoenix, Inc.'s David Krietor. Adding to the occasional will be carolers and jazz ensembles from The Nash and Arizona School for the Arts as well as food and drink provided by Aventura Catering.
