We're not doing a "Best Phoenix Concerts of 2009" list this year -- what with the economy and all, ya know? -- but if I did Dead Confederate's set at The Marquee would get serious consideration for my top 10.

As I said at the time:

Dead Confederate, who sound a little like a Bleach-era Nirvana as covered by Trail Of Dead... had moments where they looked more metal than alt-rock, the five-member band plowing through their 2008 album Wrecking Ball with minimal, but gracious, interaction with the crowd. For people who are not just sick of the water-soluble Animal Collective sound but the sad state of what passes for "rock" on the radio today, Dead Confederate are a welcome breath of fresh air. If "Sex on Fire" is the problem, "The Rat" is the solution.
So, given all that, it's a real treat to hear the band's new live record.

Dirty Ammo is available for $1 here. The brooding cover of Elliot Smith's "Roman Candle" is definitely worth hearing, so stream that even if you don't want to pony up a buck. The only sad thing is that there's no live version of "The Rat" (mp3 below), the band's best song.
