Local music website PhoenixHipHop.net has been an advocate of the Valley's hip-hop scene since its inception in 2009.

Sticking to its promise to "help continue the growth of the Phoenix area's hip-hop scene by providing a medium for artists and fans to interact and share music," the website has teamed up with Arizona turntablist DJ John Blaze for a new mixtape series.

Heat Warning Vol. 1 dropped last week and features a compilation of 22 tracks of Arizona's hip-hop talent.

"We decided to focus on the new breed of Phoenix hip-hop choosing to not put on artists like Willy Northpole, MC Magic, and Hod Rod," says local emcee Rick Sanchez in an email. Sanchez, who also performs as Mav of Sol Camp, also appears on the showcase. "Instead we are focusing on the new scene [with artists] such as G Moe, Judge, Writers Guild, and Yung Wax."

A release party is scheduled for Friday, August 17, at Muggshots in Tempe.

Mav and Blaze will hold down hosting duties with performances by Pokafase, Da FellAZ, Double A, Micky Mann, CLos, Zonafide, Nap the Nova, DNA ENT, THC, Bolow, and Fat Belly Boyz.

You can stream and download the mixtape for free here.
