"Moves Like Jagger," the fresh track by two of the judges on The Voice, has most of the elements of a quality "totally modern dance track," as Idolator said. Pop music fans usually get their kicks from a quality dance track, so long as it's done properly, and this one seems to be decent. Plus, it's fun to hear Maroon 5 go in a new direction and experiment with the magic touch of a synthesizer.
But messing with the vocals of the very talented Adam Levine is a no-no in my book. Even T-Pain swore off auto-tune
, for goodness sake, which means there's no reason to use it on an artist's voice that's already great.
As for Aguilera, she doesn't have enough air time on this song. While she doesn't hit a ton of high notes, she still pulls off her part beautifully and adds some flavor to the mix. Not to mention that the potential comeback she's been making with her success on The Voice has been impressive thus far. We'll see what this new single can do for her as well.
The track definitely gets listeners a little more comfortable with the sound after a few plays, and I'm sure that Top 40 stations will go nuts with remixes, but for now it's just...meh.
