It seems British singer Lily Allen set out to make today one of her worst in a long, long time. Allen has recently devoted her time to her new blog "It's Not Alright" to speak out against music piracy. As you can see by clicking the link, her blog posts have all been deleted and it is merely a hollow shell of what it once was. This is because the singer announced today that she has not renewed her record contract and will not make any new music, effectively ending her recording career. A bold move, indeed, Allen's hasty decision has lead to regret for the singer and complete shock for all her fans.

Allen has been crusading against the Featured Artists Coalition, a British musicians' advocacy group. She believes the FAC was wrong to fight against the British government disabling the internet accounts of users who illegally download music. She has been crusading against this all week, and today finds her at her crescendo, managing to make a post on her "It's Not Alright" blog with language that would signal some sort of retirement for her:

"Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record (applause). I do, however, remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade. The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as i'm concerner, so i don't(at this point) stand to profit from legislation. except future purchases of previously recorded material(which wont be much)."

When reached for comment, Allen's publicist told The Guardian, "Lily is not quitting pop music and is still promoting and touring her current album." Allen had all this to say on her twitter account

The latest post explains exactly why her blog is no longer, with the other three explaining how she was going to and then didn't meet about piracy. According to reports, the FAC still plans to meet behind closed doors about everything.

It really has been a strange day for the British singer. She has never been one to play it safe always out to ruffle a few feathers, but this seems to be affecting her very much. She was spotted at the airport this morning in obvious dampened spirits. Time will tell if Allen really is retired from making music, but for now we just get to scratch our heads and wonder why the singer decided to get as involved as she did with what is a seemingly futile battle.
