Tempe kiddie-poppers The Maine have announced the release date for their new record, Black & White, the major-label followup to Can't Stop, Won't Stop. Sire will drop the record, produced by Howard Benson (Papa Roach, Creed, Hawthorne Heights), on July 13.

In the least surprising news of the week, the band says it's a "departure."

"We're trying to go for more of a raw feel - really just a free, loose record," explains front man John O'Callahan, who suggests it hearkens back to the classic sounds of "American rock-n-roll."

One of the new tracks, "Inside of You" is available exclusively on iTunes starting yesterday.

On a day when Malcolm in the Middle's Phoenix-based band, You Hang Up, takes to Twitter to excitedly report they've hit a million plays on MySpace, it's worth nothing that The Maine has 77 million plays on MySpace and has sold 113,000 albums. That number will go waaaay up as the band headlines a national tour this summer.
