While music festival season is pretty much wrapped up for the year up, there's still plenty to get excited about since next year's festivals are being planned.
Announcements have been rolling out one after another this past week. Big news has broken about dates, headliners and lineups for the biggest shows stateside and overseas.
Representatives for six big music events have announced their 2011 dates this week so you can start booking your acid trips... I mean festival trips.
The Voodoo Experience will take place in New Orleans from October 28-30.
The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is happening in Telluride, Colorado from June 16-19.
The Winter Music Conference
in Miami will be going down from March 8-12, and for the first time it
will not be the same week as its usual subsequent party, the Ultra Music Festival, which will be from March 25-27.
The CMJ Music Marathon
will run from October 18-22 in New York City, and even though this
year's CMJ music madness took place less than a month ago, artist
registration for the 2011 Music Marathon already opened on November 18.
June 9-12 will also mark the 10th anniversary of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.
On top of all of that, Lollapalooza is going international by trying out a South American version of the festival in Chile at the beginning of April.
As
for headliners, some big names nobody's heard from in a while are
slated to fill the top spots. Metallica, Snow Patrol and the Red Hot
Chili Peppers will be headlining Rock in Rio.
Despite false rumors, RHCP will also be headlining the Japanese festival Summer Sonic and not Bonnaroo. Meanwhile, the Foo Fighters have been confirmed as headliners for the Sasquatch! Music Festival at the Gorge for a four-day Memorial Day weekend. They're also keeping busy by filling some big shoes at the Isle of Wight Festival in the UK in June, as are Kings of Leon. Furthermore, Barcelona's Primavera Sound
festival has unveiled a portion of its lineup, which officially
includes headliners Belle and Sebastian, as well as Animal Collective,
The Flaming Lips, Suicide, Swans, The National, Fleet Foxes, Mogwai,
Mercury Rev, and John Cale (formerly of Velvet Underground).
There
will be many more festival announcements to come, so keep your eyes
peeled. Start marking your calendars and ring in the summer of 2011 with
an unforgettable time at a number of the bombass festivals going down.
