A female inmate at an Arizona prison won't be serving the remainder of her sentence behind bars. That's because she's dead -- and it seems she did it to herself.

Prison officials announced this afternoon that 28-year-old Geshell Fernandez was found dead in her cell just after noon today.

Prison medical staff tried to revive her, but it was too late: her time as a guest of the state had come to an end.

Fernandez was held at the Perryville Prison in Goodyear, where she was serving a 7 1/2-year sentence for aggravated assault and a drug paraphernalia violation.

She hadn't been at the prison very long -- she began her sentence in November. Apparently, though, Fernandez had seen enough.

DOC spokesman Barrett Marson wouldn't say how Fernandez killed herself, only that it was "an apparent suicide."

Marson says the death is under investigation.
