A Chandler woman escaped certain death a lousy breakfast yesterday morning -- when she noticed her toast was burning, she panicked and jumped off the balcony of her apartment.

Chandler fire officials say fire units responded to the "fire" at 800 North Federal Street near Ray Road and Loop 101 about 9:30 a.m. yesterday. There wasn't much of a fire, just some burnt toast.

When fire crews got to the scene, the woman was screaming "I'm trapped," KPHO reports.

Fire crews took the toaster outside to air it out, and say nothing other than the toast was burned.

It's unclear to fire officials why the woman opted to jump off a balcony, rather than, say, use the door to escape the (ahem) blaze. Or, better yet, just throw the flaming toast in the sink.

Nope -- she jumped off the balcony, breaking her leg.

The woman was taken to an area hospital and treated for her injuries -- again, sustained by jumping off a balcony to escape some burning toast.
