If you're not howling for the Phoenix Coyotes yet, just watch a game.
There was no shortage of excitement in last night's game, as the Coyotes beat the Florida Panthers in a dramatic 4-3 thriller, breaking the franchise's single-season win record with the Yotes 44th victory.
If you caught the first two periods of last night's game, you know that a W for the Howlers was a little unexpected.
The Coyotes went scoreless in the first two periods, while the Panthers put three in the net before the third period even began.
Coyotes goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, who leads the league in shutouts and is considered by many analysts the best goalie in the league at the moment, didn't have a career game, but it was good enough to hold off the Panthers when it counted.
Bryzgalov gave up one goal in the first off the stick of Stephen Weis in the midst of a ferocious Florida power play.
He got beat again twice in the second period by David Booth and Cory Stillman, putting the Doggies down three going into the third period.
With the score three-nil going into the third, it looked as though the Panthers were going to end the Coyotes impressive six-game win streak -- three of which came on the road.
That's when Desert Dogs decided to ply a little offense.
Martin Hanzal and Lee Stempniak each scored early in the third giving the Coyotes a manageable one-goal deficit.
The rest of the period, each team fought off penalties, but the momentum had definitely shifted away from the Panthers.
With a minute left in regulation, and the Coyotes down one, Radim Vrbata sneaked one past Panthers goalie Tomas Vokoun to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Neither team scored in the five-minute overtime, which sent the game into the most exciting addition to NHL hockey: the shoot-out.
Bryzgalov stopped two of three Panthers shots, but that was enough for the Coyotes shooters, who scored on two of three attempts, including the nail in the coffin by the Doggies third shooter, Radim Vrbata.
The Coyotes are headed home after a lengthy, undefeated road trip and will face the Chicago Blackhawks in Glendale tomorrow night. The game, shockingly, is sold out, but you can catch it on TV on Fox Sports Arizona at 6 p.m. For more info on the 'Yotes and their Stanley Cup-caliber season, go to coyotes.nhl.com.
