The CityScape Block Party is taking over downtown Phoenix starting Thursday night ... and the musical lineup is mind blowing.

Macy Gray! Third Eye Blind!

And Phoenix City Councilman Claude Mattox?

Yep. He is expected to make a solo appearance on stage Sunday afternoon for a 90-minute set. What happened to his band -- the Screamin' Javelinas?

Should we assume that organizers squeezed in the Phoenix-mayor wannabe to give him a little community face time ...? Nah. That would be too cynical.

We do wonder, though, what happened to the Screamin' Javelinas?

Did Mattox leave the band to go solo?! Is he pursuing a solo album?!

Well, if that's true, music fans will have to push through the painful loss of a group that just last year encouraged runners during a stretch of the P.F. Chang's Rock and Roll Arizona Marathon, and has performed at charity events and coffee houses around the Valley.

It would be as sad as the Justin Timberlake-*NSYC split. Or a tragic as when Ricky Martin left Menudo. Or when Paul McCartney announced he was through with the Beatles.

Okay, maybe not that bad.

Unfortunately, Mattox is tied up in City Council meetings all day, so we'll have to wait a while before we can put these rumors to rest.
