The dead body of a man was found laying on top of a fully loaded assault rifle in the Vekol Valley earlier this week, and because the man was Hispanic, authorities, per usual, are going on the assumption that he's an illegal immigrant.
About 9:40 a.m. on Monday, a ranger from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management was assisting border patrol agents track what the BLM claims was a group of armed suspects carrying "drug backpacks."
During his pursuit of the suspects, the ranger came across the body --
which was laying face down on top of a fully loaded AK-47 assault rifle
-- just south of Interstate 8.
The BLM says the victim is a "possible illegal immigrant." Calls to the
BLM to find out what other than the victim being Hispanic led them to
that conclusion were not immediately returned this afternoon.
The BLM ranger called the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, which processed
the scene and discovered survival supplies and more ammunition in the
victim's possession.
The cause of death is currently unclear.
