There's no better day than today, April Fools' Day, to explain the latest goings-on with Sheriff Joe Arpaio's "birther" gang.
Yes, the phony "investigation" of President Obama's birth certificate still exists, and no, there's no actual evidence yet.

Back in November, Arpaio's chief birther, former used car salesman Mike Zullo, said they had uncovered some "universe shattering evidence."
Remember, Arpaio held a press conference more than two years ago, on March 1, 2012, declaring Obama's birth certificate a fraud. However, there hasn't been a single shred of evidence to support that claim, other than some claims that have been thoroughly debunked.
Obviously, no one with half a brain or more was actually expecting that Arpaio's gang would suddenly come up with "universe shattering evidence" two years later. For the sake of playing along, we found that one of Arpaio's birther mouthpieces said this shattering of the universe would take place in March. Zullo also mentioned a March announcement several times.
Well, it's April 1st, the appropriately named April Fools' Day. The universe failed to shatter, we didn't fall into a black hole, and there was no announcement. Imagine that.
In the meantime, however, the man who actually got Arpaio's investigation started has publicly admitted that the whole investigation was a complete sham. Brian Reilly, a member of the Surprise Tea Party, who takes credit for creating the petition asking for Arpaio to investigate Obama's birth certificate, penned a fairly thorough explanation of how much of a joke the entire investigation was. It's a must-read.
Now, of course, since March has come and gone, Arpaio's birther gang says there's no official date for the release of the "evidence."
