A Phoenix resident found a stinkier-than-usual trash can in his neighborhood last night and when he looked inside he found a decomposing human body.

Cops got a call  about 10:30 p.m. yesterday after a neighbor was walking in an alley near 47th Avenue and McDowell Road.

The neighbor passed a dumpster and it apparently reeked enough that he decided to look inside.

That's when he saw the decomposed body.

In that neighborhood, trash is picked up in front of residents' houses, not in the alley. The trash can wasn't the same color as the color-coded bins used in the neighborhood, so it instantly stood out.

Police don't know a whole lot at this point. They haven't been able to determine whether the body is male or female.

The body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office, where officials will try to determine the cause of death and identify the body.

Police say we shouldn't hold our breath in terms of finding out more details.
