Good ballgame to watch last night down at the US Airways Center, but San Antonio's veteran stars proved too much in the end, as the Spurs pulled away late from the Phoenix Suns to win 107-100.
Point guard Steve Nash looked, or should we say moved, like an oldster in the final quarter, and we heard after the game that his back had tightened up and was giving him problems. His line--16 points, eight assists, five turnovers--was fine, but he was a liability down the stretch, much as it pains us to say it.
The Spurs' Tim Duncan, another grizzled vet who (like Nash) will be a first-ballot Hall of Fame pick someday, put up 26 points and 11 rebounds, a great outing.
The Spurs (34-14 on the season) look awfully good, and may even compete for the NBA title in this abbreviated season.
Phoenix has the day off, and plays the entertaining Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at the Staples Center.
