Sam Smith is asking fans in Phoenix to stay with him, at least those who bought tickets to the singer's August 12 concert in Glendale.

The singer announced today that the concert had to be postponed — Smith's vocal chords, for which the singer recently received surgery, need more rest.

The new concert date is Wednesday, September 30, at Gila River Arena. All previous tickets will be honored, though it's not immediately clear if refunds will be accepted for those who can't make the September date.

Smith posted the following explanation to his Facebook page:

Dear Phoenix,

I am incredibly sorry to announce I am having to reschedule my show tomorrow. It is for the same reasons as previous rescheduled shows from this tour. This tour was booked pre-surgery, and post-surgery it's become clear I need more rest time in between shows. Otherwise, I could damage my voice again. I am so incredibly sorry for the inconvenience, but it's a matter of rescheduling one or canceling many. I can't wait to play for you in a few weeks. And again, I am sorry.

This isn't the first time this year a major touring act has canceled an appearance in Phoenix. Nickelback and Little Big Town both called off shows in the Valley earlier this year, citing health reasons.

Update: Refunds will be available for those who can't make the new date.
