100 Favorite Dishes 2015: Vic's Meatloaf and Eggs at Dick's Hideaway

30. Vic's Meatloaf and Eggs at Dick's Hideaway

There's a time for a sunlit brunch on some restaurant's picture-perfect patio. But there's also a time when you need a morning meal at Dick's Hideaway, where the bar/restaurant's dark, cool interior makes you want to hunker down and dig into something hearty like a platter of carne adovada or a chile-soaked plate of enchiladas and eggs. (In case it's not clear, that time is usually when you're hungover.)

This tiny gem of a restaurant is nothing short of a Valley classic — even though locals like to pretend it's a secret spot — and specializes in New Mexican-style cuisine. My go-to hangover breakfast has to be the Vic's meatloaf and eggs, a dish that's sort of unexpected when it comes to brunch. You can order your hunk of meatloaf smothered in either red or green chile (word to the wise: you want both), and on top of those spicy sauces, you'll get three fried eggs. This dish sticks to your ribs and makes for a soul-satisfying remedy to whatever mistakes might ail you from the night before. 

Then again, if the food fails you, just try one of Dick's Bloody Marys, which comes with a side shooter of beer.
