7 Free Things to Do This Week in Metro Phoenix

Halloween can be an expensive holiday. The cost of costumes, candy, cocktails, and Uber rides home can be scarier than any horror movie you've seen. Give your bank account a rest, and check out these seven free events to help you recover from Halloweek 2015.

Indoor Ping Pong Tournament 
You've probably heard about Paz Cantina's impending closure, and might have felt the collective devastation felt by downtown Phoenix. As sad as it is, the cantina will be hosting a deluge of events to say "goodbye for now," before they lock the doors. One, in particular, seems especially silly and is totally free to participate in. The restaurant's weekly indoor ping pong tournament will take place on Monday, November 2. The winner will receive a $50 Paz gift card, but everyone gets to indulge in drink specials, so it's a win-win. HackerNest November Tech Social
Dying to share your latest breakthrough in a digital project? HackerNest Phoenix is hosting its November Tech Social on Tuesday, November 3, at Gangplank in Chandler. From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., guests can share their ideas and discuss projects with likeminded hackers, which could result in some serious problems solving. Carline Center Debut
Harder Development's latest project includes reviving an old shopping center on Roosevelt Street in the F.Q. Story Neighborhood Historical District. It's named for the old streetcar that used to run through the district, but has been modernized with patios and fixture in an effort to attract businesses back to the area. The center's grand opening will be on Thursday, November 5, and will include building tours and a pop-up art exhibit featuring works by Joe Holdren and Yuko Yabuki. All those interested can meet at 1018 W. "Science & Spirit: The Power of Human Intention with Some of It's Many Applications"
Professor Emeritus William A. Tiller of Stanford University will be at the Arizona Science Center on Friday, November 6, at 7 p.m. The free lecture is part of the monthly Adults' Night Out event and will cover the latest research in human intentions and their implications. Tiller is world-renowned for his psychoenergetic studies and has published more than 250 scientific papers, three books, and has multiple patents. Grand Prix of Scottsdale
Monaco is far away, and so is the next official Grand Prix. Downtown Scottsdale, however, is hosting its own Prix on Saturday, November 7, for race fanatics. The event will kick off with an introduction by Mayor Jim Lane, who will introduce a parade of the small 1920s-era automobiles. The race will then run through the downtown area, and will feature drivers in era-appropriate clothing. The event will begin at 10 a.m., but VIP tickets can be purchased online that include late-night parties and extra events. Visit grandprixscottsdale.com for more information. 

"Transforming Space"
9 The Gallery and Artelshow will host a new exhibit this week called "Transforming Space" that will feature large-scale work from artists Joe Holdren and Yuko Yabuki. Holdren's abstract style and Yabuki's modern Japanese methods will be featured side-by-side and will fill the gallery with bright colors and bold themes. Both the artists will be at the gallery on Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information available at the gallery's website.

#BikeMcClintock
Bikers unite. Tempe recently installed new bike lanes around the city, and a local group of riders plan to test them out this week. Meet at Baseline and McClintock on Saturday, November 7, at noon to ride safely through the streets. Cameras are encouraged, as are all types of bikes and riders of all ages.
