Here's the Lineup for the Gold Rush Music Festival

Local fans of both hip-hop and electronic dance music will want to keep both Saturday, November 18, and Sunday, November 19, free on their schedules.

That’s because a new festival aimed at both crowds will be making its debut at Rawhide Western Town in Chandler that particular weekend – and it’s going to feature a big lineup of performers.

The first-ever Gold Rush Music Festival will take over the kitschy western theme park and offer two straight days of hip-hop artists and DJs.

According to Thomas Turner of Relentless Beats, the local EDM event promoter that’s putting on Gold Rush, the festival will be a combination dance music massive and hip-hop extravaganza catering to fans of those genres.

“It's going to be about hip-hop and dance music, but a broad spectrum of both,” Turner says. “It will go from noon to midnight both days with a total of 24 hours of music on three stages. So it’s going to be lot of talent and a lot of music happening.”

He ain’t kidding. Relentless Beats recently finished announcing the complete list of artist and acts that will perform at Gold Rush, and the lineup includes Migos, Marshmello, Lil Uzi Vert, Dillon Francis, Barclay Crenshaw, Keys N Krates, Excision, Claude VonStroke, Snow Tha Product, Drezo, and Hippie Sabotage.

Fool's Gold founder A-Trak will also serve up a back-to-back (or "b2b," as it's known in the DJ world) with Bauuer on Saturday, November 18, during the first day of the festival.

It's not going to be the only show-stopping dance music-related performance at the festival.

Turner says that one of the stages at Gold Rush will be hosted by house music DJ/producer Claude VonStroke of Dirtybird Records, who will oversee its lineup.

“He’s going to curate the stage and it will be called the Birdhouse,” Turner says. “There's going to be some big special guests, too.”

VonStroke won’t be the only person that Relentless Beats is collaborating with for the festival, as local hip-hop promoter Michael Horowitz of Universatile Music will also be involved with booking talent for the event. Turner says it's partially due to the fact that the touring Mad Decent Block Party, which was co-promoted locally by Universatile and RB, wasn’t making a stop in Phoenix this year.

“We lost Mad Decent this year because they decided to scale back, so Mike and I started talking about doing a festival together,” Turner says. “And I ended up bringing him into Gold Rush because I wanted to go multi-genre and I thought he was a great partner. He’s the one who’s curating our hip-hop lineup.”

Relentless Beats put on a number of indoor and outdoor EDM events at Rawhide over the last three years, including the annual Global Dance Festival Arizona that took place within the venue’s western town in 2015 and 2016.

So what makes Gold Rush Music Festival different? Turner says it will feature a bigger and more varied lineup and will utilize the western town portion of Rawhide better.

“When I first went to Rawhide years go, I thought, ‘I could create this totally themed Disneyland of festivals in this amazing western town,” he says. “That's what I wanted for [Global Dance Festival Arizona] and it just didn't do that. It had a cool vibe, but with Gold Rush, I think we're really going to be able to expand things to make it bigger and better.”

That includes adding events like panning for gold, hayrides, or live shootouts that he says will “use all of the features of the property.”

“The western town is just this huge added feature that we’re really going to use,” he says. “To have an 1880s-style western town that would cost millions of dollars to build is pretty cool. It's just such an invaluable asset and that's what we intend to utilize for the festival and really a fantastic atmosphere.”

Tickets for the festival are on sale and can be purchased both online and at local Zia stores. General admission is $139 per person and covers both days of the event, as do $299 VIP passes, which also include such perks as express entry and a separate viewing area.

A “Gold VIP” package is available online for $549 and features admission to both days, complimentary drinks, a hospitality lounge, and dinner in Rawhide’s steakhouse.
