Oasis Raspados

In the almost-always-hot climate of the Arizona desert, Oasis Raspados is a welcome place to ditch the sun and cool off. Forget about store-bought Popsicles that are more sugar than natural flavor and homemade “treats” made of frozen orange juice in an ice cube tray. In Central Phoenix off of 32nd Street, Oasis Raspados specializes in raspados, the Mexican version of the classic rainbow snow cone. But instead of being bland, hard domes with all of the syrup dripping out the bottom, these icy delights are packed with chunks of fresh fruit. These super refreshing concoctions are available in familiar childhood favorites like strawberry, mango, and watermelon. Once you’re addicted, move on to more authentic flavors like tamarind, horchata, and walnut – or the ultimate acquired taste, the spicy chamoyada (pickled chile fruit). Add some sweetened condensed milk or a scoop of ice cream to turn it into a really indulgent dessert.
