Shawarma King in Glendale is a small, counter service restaurant that specializes in shawarma, the traditional Levantine-style meat that is seasoned with herbs like cumin and cinnamon and cooked on a rotating spit for as long as a day. For lunch, the restaurant offers excellent shawarma wrap sandwiches, including an exceptionally juicy chicken shawarma wrap dressed in a garlicky tahini sauce. The restaurant also offers some of the best made-from-scratch falafel around town. The crispy, craggy golf ball-sized falafel are made from spiced, ground garbanzo, which are seasoned with chef Fadi Bajbouj’s homemade secret spice recipe. The falafel is spongey and almost cake-like, and pairs well with the restaurant’s fresh hummus, or the house Arabic salad, a medley of finely chopped herbs, tomatoes and cucumbers.
