Arty Girl: Shopping at the Heard Museum

It's black Friday. How could I blog about anything else but shopping?

Now, I'm not the type to hit a mall on a day like today. Or most days, for that matter.

But I do love to shop. And I have to say that there's nothing like a museum gift shop. Every time I go to a museum, I can't resist poking around; checking out their original jewelry, housewares and little artsy trinkets. Which is how I stumbled upon Ugly Dolls. And now gift giving for my nieces is real easy - they go nuts for those things.

Easy shopping for presents is really the way to go. Which is why heading up to the Heard Museum North Scottsdale sometime today, tomorrow or Sunday is probably in your best interest. At their event, "Ornaments and Adornments", the gift shop is spilling over with holiday goodies: wreaths, books, ornaments and jewelry all made by Native artists. I mean, just look at this little guy here... effing cute!

Starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, you'll hear live ambient flute music by Anthony Wakeman, children's book signings by Jean Adams author of "Clarence Goes Out West and Meets a Purple Horse", and illustrator Kevin Kibsey of "Dr. Bird to the Rescue".

"Ornaments and Adornments" at Heard Museum North Scottsdale, 32633 N. Scottsdale Rd., is this Friday, November 28th - Sunday, November 30th from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. with flute music from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Friday & Saturday and book signing from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday. Call 480-488-9817 or visit
