The Six Funniest Lines In Kanye West's Yeezus

Everyone's tripping over themselves to parse out the complicated and conflicted political posturing going on in Yeezus, myself included, so it's easy to lose sight of the fact that, for all its ground-breaking, this record is still chock-full of hilarious Kanye lines.

He's always been funny (that light-skinned/dark-skinned Michael Jackson line from College Dropout still makes me chuckle when I hear it), and Ye stays true to that here. Here's a list of the funniest.

1. "$2,000 bag with no cash in your purse."

I'm not sure if anyone else still remembers "Got a quarter tank of gas / In my new E-class" from the Big Tymers' "Still Fly," but this line is basically a retread of that sentiment, and a funny one at that.

As usual, the dude who has Ralph Lauren stores shut down so that he can shop solo for his polos is criticizing others' spending, but, hey, that's part of the humor.

2. "She got more niggas off than Cochrane."

The casual misogyny and willingness to play to racial stereotypes is sure to put off many, and rightly so, but the play on "get off" is worth it.

This, combined with the album's references to Jerome from Martin, leaves me with the impression that Kanye made the record in 1996, which is funny in its own right.

3. "I keep it 300, like the Romans / 300 bitches, where's the Trojans?"

Sure, the 300 being referenced here aren't actually Roman (which, admit it, you had to Google to be sure of anyway), but the rhyme to Trojans justifies the mistake, perhaps intentional anyway.

Leave it to Kanye to use a Zack Snyder film to put a new spin on the I-have-sex-with-lots-of-women rap cliché.

4. "When I park my Range Rover / Slightly scratch your Corolla / Okay, I smashed your Corolla"

I'm not exactly sure what Kanye has against Toyotas (surely you remember "What you think I rap for? To push a fuckin' Rav 4?" from "Run This Town"), but he manages disparage them left and right, and always to good effect.

I'm guessing that Ye sees "Toyota" as shorthand for "affordably priced, sensible vehicle that I would never, ever, ever purchase," which makes it all the better, since some of us can't even afford Toyotas.

5. "Rock Forever 21, but just turned 30"

Another middle-class-people-are-kind-of-funny-to-me Kanye line, but this one's critical of aging-in-denial folks, too, and memorably so.

Granted, dude's 36 years old and is still rocking leather vests and shit, but whatever. He got you good.

6. "Hey, you remember where we first met? / Okay, I don't remember where we first met"

Yeezy's nothing if not intensely self-aware, and this line seems to be the embodiment of that -- critical of someone else with full acknowledgment of his own various, numerous failings.

It helps, too, that the line is hilarious for rhyming "met" with "met," and that you could easily see him getting all bent out of shape if the "you" referenced in the line didn't actually remember the first time she met him.
