Michele Chinichian knows a thing or three about throwing a boffo birthday bash. For proof, look no further than the magically delicious affair she threw in honor of her own b-day in January. It overflowed with unicorns, balloons, rainbow-colored party favors, and other playful revelry. Chinichian, who performs as DJ Roya, will attempt to one-up herself with another birthday blowout in honor of Tongue Tied's One-Year Anniversary on Saturday, May 3, at Apollo's, 5749 North Seventh Street. The monthly dance party, which features both Roya and DJ Funkfinger spinning indie and retro hits, boasts an amorous theme and will include a "Night of Love" costume contest with a grand prize of a gift basket filled with $200 worth of liquor. (It's fitting, considering all the drunken hookups made at Tongue Tied). Sweet prizes and goofy giveaways like free wedding rings, chocolates, and flowers will be handed out, and a midnight champagne toast, mixtape/CD swap, drink specials, and photo booth featuring a cardboard cutout of Fabio also are planned. The dancing and romancing starts at 9 p.m. and a $5 cover starts at 9:30 p.m. See www.facebook.com/tonguetiedphoenix.
