A Maricopa Bar Will Appear on Bar Rescue This Weekend

The Roost in Maricopa, formerly known as True Grit Tavern prior to being filmed for Bar Rescue.
You can add Maricopa’s True Grit Tavern, now known as The Roost, to the list of Arizona watering holes featured on Bar Rescue.

The business will be the focus of the latest episode of the popular Paramount Network reality TV show airing on Sunday, August 15.

According to owner Ralph Skrzypczak in a video posted to the bar's Facebook, the episode will be just as dramatic as your average edition of the show and include scenes of authoritarian host Jon Taffer yelling at him.

“Basically, they're going to roast the crap out of me, so that's going to be fun,” Skrzypczak says.

The episode, titled “Wreck It Ralph,” will also feature the bar, restaurant, and music venue located at 20800 North John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa being transformed into The Roost, its new identity. The business will get a makeover and upgrade to its food and drink menu, as is the norm for Bar Rescue.

“They went ahead and changed our name, changed our bar [and] did a whole shebang,” Skrzypczak says.

Filming of the episode and True Grit Tavern’s transformation into The Roost occurred in mid-June, according to Skrzypczak’s Twitter account. (Phoenix New Times was unable to reach him for further comment on the experience.)

The bar reopened to the public shortly after filming ended.

This is the 11th time an Arizona bar has been the focus of the long-running bar makeover show. Previous spots featured on Bar Rescue include The Gallopin’ Goose in Coolidge, George & Dragon English Pub in midtown Phoenix, and Tempe's Brick and Barley.

Skrzypczak’s bar will host a viewing party on Sunday night for the episode, which airs at 10 p.m. in Arizona. Admission to the event is free.
