Hunter S. Thompson first defined the word "gonzo" in the '70s with his drug-fueled journalism. In 2001, the term was redefined by an outfielder who drove in the winning run in the bottom of Game 7's ninth inning for your Arizona Diamondbacks. The D-Backs announced last week that Luis Gonzalez, in the final year of a four-year deal with the team, signed a contract extension. After Gonzo's 2002 season was cut short, fans should be happy to know that he's healthy and planning on sticking around.

The team's 2003 season kicks off at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers at 3:05 p.m. Monday, March 31. Call 480-784-4444 for tickets. Brendan Joel Kelley
