Thanks to photo-heavy social sites like Tumblr and Pinterest (ugh, do we have to?) all our free time is now spent repining and hearting anything and everything cute and creative. But, when we happen to look up from our laptops, a strange thing happens. We suddenly realize our surroundings aren’t the perfectly manicured spaces with hyper-organized closets full of covetable clothing that all our pals are pinning.

Perhaps if our time was spent learning about decorating and fashion, as opposed to ogling it, then we’d be able to meld the two practices much like local interior designers will for the fifth annual International Interior Design Association Couture Show. Here’s how it works: teams of architects, designers, and students are randomly assigned a color scheme and specific industry material. Within those restrictions each group has to create and model a one-of-a-kind gown made from typical of living space elements (think carpeting, upholstery fabrics, and drapery).
