The Mexican Men’s National Soccer team has always suffered from being a big fish in a small pond. El Tri have dominated CONCACAF play for the last 50 years. Mexico has struggled, however, when not playing the minnows in North America. In its history, Mexico has won a round in the knockout stages of the World Cup only twice, and has been bounced in the first round of the knockout stages in the last five World Cups.
This year’s Mexican National Team may actually be different. Led by forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, Mexico has had an extremely impressive last year, which included a 2-0 victory over perennial powerhouse Brazil, and looks like a legitimately impressive team. You can get an up-close look at El Tri on Wednesday, January 30, when they take on Denmark in a friendly at University of Phoenix Stadium.
