If beauty’s only skin deep, then being a model can’t be all the globe-trotting, Tyra Banks-funded fun it’s cracked up to be. We’d imagine it’s quite the opposite: a world of disposable people who have their picture taken, walk some runways, look good for a few years and, once they don’t, are immediately discarded. Any fame achieved is fleeting.
Director Brent Huff looks beyond the glossy surface of the modeling industry in his documentary Chasing Beauty. Through interviews with models, photographers, plastic surgeons, psychologists, makeup artists, and others, he reveals that ugly side.
Get a glimpse at it when Phoenix Fashion Week presents a screening of the film at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 31, at Studio Movie Grill, 15515 North Hayden Road in Scottsdale. A panel discussion will follow and featuring such industry experts as Miss Arizona USA Brittany Dawn Brannon, stylist Fawn Cheng, cosmetic surgeon Daniel Shapiro, and Tracy Rasinski, regional director of Fashion Group International’s Arizona chapter.
