It's a downright shame that just as The Western opened up on the edge of downtown Scottsdale, George Jones gave up the ghost and passed on. We could see The Possum chilling in the rustic confines of Tucker Woodbury and Charlie Levy's Scottsdale roadhouse. The beat lives on there with the Valley Fever Country Music Night on Thursday.
Just as George Jones was country when country wasn't cool, DJ Dana's stewardship of Valley Fever has kept the music focused on country and Western before Nashville went pop. The Valley Fever outbreak fills the country bar with vintage, outlaw, and down-home twangy tunes alongside live rootsy acts from all across the valley and state, including The Hank Topless Band, Barefoot & Pregnant, and The Jamie Waldron Trio.
June 6 marks Valley Fever's finale at the Scottsdale hot spot, located at 6830 East Fifth Street. The evening of bumping country starts at 8 p.m., and there is no cover. Visit www.thewesternaz.com or call 480-947-3585 for more info.
