Peer pressure is such a difficult thing -- especially in high school. The urge to “go along” with friends' perceptions and beliefs is difficult to overcome. That challenge is faced by East High jock Troy Bolton as he waffles between being only a basketball star and auditioning for the school musical. Add to it a brainy love interest (who also can sing), conniving theater geeks, skater dudes, unknowing jocks, vengeful cheerleaders, clueless teachers, and an oblivious coach -- plus plenty of song and dance through the halls and on the court -- and it can only mean one thing: High School Musical is back in town. Adapted from Disney’s ultra-popular movie musical, the local stage performance is put on by the Copperstar Repertory Company.

Go back to high school at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, in the Piper Repertory Theater at the Mesa Arts Center, One East Main Street. Tickets are $19. Performances continue through Saturday, July 27. Visit www.mesaartscenter.com.
