The Arizona Diamondbacks have the worst bullpen in all of Major League Baseball, easily leading the league in blown saves. That said, skipper Kirk Gibson has somehow managed to turn his club into a formidable bunch of ballers. If -- and that's a capital IF -- the bullpen can put a prompt end to their season long choke-fest, there's still plenty of time for the D-backs to run away with their division.
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been transcendent, as his humility and work ethic are the perfect embodiment of Gibby's vision for the team, but the Dodgers are finally beginning to maximize their $200 million roster. And that means trouble for the 'Backs down the stretch. A three-game home stand against the struggling Padres might be just what the commish ordered. The series opener is at 6:40 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Chase Field, 401 East Jefferson Street. Tickets are $9 and up via www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 602-462-6500.
