Few of the things we remember fondly from our youth actually hold up well. Voltron was horribly repetitive, pogs were stupid, and Hypercolor shirts just made you look like a really sloppy eater. Jim Henson’s Labryinth is one of those rare staples of 80’s nostalgia that manages to not be total crap when you revisit it as an adult. Granted, the plot is a bit thinner than you probably remember but the aesthetics, the soundtrack, and David Bowie absolutely killing it as the Goblin King more than make up for the story line.

If you’re feeling particularly nostalgic, the First Time Film Club is hosting a screening of Labryinth at National Comedy Theatre,1111 Longmore Road in Mesa, on Thursday, October 17. The screening will be followed by a trivia contest, if that’s your thing.

The screening starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at www.nctphoenix.com. Call 602-374-5638 for more information.
