The Musical Instrument Museum is celebrating the sights and, most importantly, the sounds of Carnival with a two-day excursion into the traditional arts of the Caribbean. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy dance performances by Bella Q Dance Studio and Grupo Folklórico I’naru as well as musical performances by Caribbean Cruisers, drum master Keith Johnson, steel-pan artists Ansel Joseph and James “JT” Taylor.
On top of that, there will also be stilt walking, face painting, workshops, demos, a photo booth, and a temporary installation of a professionally made carnival costume by designer Brian MacFarlane. Experience Carnival takes place Saturday, February 8, at the Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 East Mayo Boulevard. Access to the event is included with the purchase of regular museum admission, which ranges $18 and under. Experience Carnival runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with demos, workshops, and performances scheduled throughout. For the full lineup of Carnival events, which continue through Sunday, February 9, visit www.mim.org or call 480-478-6000.
