Prog-rock diehards and horror movie fanatics had reason to geek out when 2013 saw 40-year-old Italian band Goblin embark on its first-ever North American tour. In 2014, Goblin has decided to come back for more, this time in a round of West Coast shows. The band formed in the early 1970s, taking inspiration from all the prog biggies of the time (think King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer). Later that decade, Goblin's place in history was secured. Through Goblin's work with a pianist who was making music for horror director Dario Argento, the filmmaker tapped the group to quickly score his latest project, Deep Red. The band rose to the occasion and garnered more gigs scoring would-be Argento classics Suspiria and Phenomena. Currently featuring original members Claudio Simonetti, Maurizio Guarini, and Massimo Morante, Goblin's live show features the band members performing soundtrack selections while clips from the films screen behind them.
