When it comes to whosits, whatsits and how-tos, Ignite Phoenix is the place to be. The bi-annual presentation series holds its sixteenth session this week.
In the past, both prominent members of their fields and next-door-neighbor types have taken the stage to share for five minutes. Topics cover the gamut from heartwarming to heartbreaking, with an emphasis on the weird and hilarious. This year’s topics include “Redefining the Grandma stereotype,” from Vickie O’Connor (we can only assume she is one herself), while Tom Bishop speaks about his previous life in, “Confessions of a Wounded Warrior: 9 Toes, 2 Purple Hearts, and Zero Regrets.” And Julia Zolondz, the driving force behind last year’s inaugural Phoenix DinoCon, will present “Dinosaurs aren’t just for 5 year olds (sic): How I turned my obsession into a convention.”
Celebrate the sweet sixteen Friday, May 2, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 East Second Street. Tickets are sold out, but this year’s event will be streaming live online. Visit www.ignitephoenix.com for links and details. Those looking for last-minute tickets are encouraged to
