Men, it’s time to get your kilt on and see what you’re made of. We're talking about the annual Scottish Highland Games—a show of strength, not just physically, but also culturally. Expect traditional Scottish music, from bagpipes to drum and fife corps, along with fine Scottish dancing. Food, games, and genealogy studies also are featured. Of course, the athletic endeavors draw the most attention. There’s the hammer throw, tug-o-war, and the always exciting caber toss -- in English: flipping a telephone pole.
Festivities run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at Steele Indian School Park, 300 East Indian School Road. Tickets are $17 for adults, $12 for military and seniors, and $5 for kids 6 to 12. Visit www.arizonascots.com/05games.shtml.
