Healthy food take-out chain My Fit Foods continues to expand in Phoenix, opening a third area location in Ahwatukee on last month after establishing stores in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley.

The Houston-based brand -- with more than 50 locations in four states -- offers customizable "3 Day Challenge" meal plans that range from $75-85 and "21 Day Challenge" meal plans which range from $550-750. That price sounds rather steep, but after only three weeks, My Fit Foods in Ahwatukee reported that it had more than forty clients enrolled.

For those not as inclined to fork over the nest egg for conveniently-packaged meals over extended periods, a refrigerated display case full of individual meals are readily available, prepared daily at the Scottsdale kitchen location.

Dishes include Americano (steak and eggs) and breakfast tacos for early morning eats and lemon turkey, turkey pasta and "killuh chili" for lunch. Breakfast costs around $4.85 to $9.50, while lunch and dinner entrees are in the ballpark of $6.85 to $12.25. Everything comes pre-cooked in small, medium or large options.

According to Monica Daniel, nutrition coach for the Ahwatukee My Fit Foods, what they're selling is healthy, convenient take-and-go food -- "all fresh, non-processed, never frozen, carefully portioned by the weight of proteins and 95% gluten-free."

As with any nutrition-oriented program that asserts positive, dramatic results, exercise caution instead of buying into hype wholeheartedly. According to Sharon Salomon, MS, RD, and one of Chow Bella's recently selected Tastemakers, "Healthy foods do make you feel better. But there's no guarantee that you'll lose weight, lower your cholesterol, build muscle."

"I wish everyone had time to shop for fresh ingredients and cook their meals from scratch, but I understand that many people lack time, skill and inclination to do so," says Salomon. "I'm happy to see that there might be other solutions than a fast food calorie laden meal devoid of most important nutrients."

My Fit Foods in Ahwatukee is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visit the My Fit Foods Web site for additional information.
